Mad Men inspired

So, here's my problem. I avoided watching Mad Men, knowing that I'd fall in love with the style, the era, and the advertising. However, I broke down and had Trevor download the past seasons. True to form, I started the series 4 days ago, and I'm already into Season 3.

What do you want from me? I'm OBSESSED. I mean, I dream about Don and Pete, and imagine myself to be a bit like Peggy - a motivated girl who got into her position by merit and experience, rather than a college degree.

True to form (this is from the girl who was depressed for a week after I finished reading Revolutionary Road) I've found myself styling my life after Mad Men. Case in point, my darling fiance's wedding outfit (instagrammed for your viewing pleasure):

The next thing is to take up chain smoking and cocktails at the office. That can wait for next week.

Invites are out!

As of tomorrow morning, invitations are in the mail! Here's a sneak peak from my press check...

I designed everything (well, of course), and wanted the invites to reflect our casual attitude towards this wedding. We're so excited to finally tie the knot, but don't see the point in the formal pomp and circumstance that usually accompanies weddings. Our ceremony and party will be easy and fun, and we wanted to convey that from the minute our guests find the invitation in their mail box. No calligraphy for this girl!

85 days to go!

PS. Check out the new vendors page for links to all the local Napa companies we're using for our big day!

Hair / Makeup / Body Inspiration

Who needs Pinterest?? (okay, me, but it's beside the point.) All I need for a little wedding inspiration is a walk down memory lane, via Facebook profile photos!

Makeup and hair: Blondeblonde, long bangs, brown sparkly eye shadow, eyeliner and LOTS of mascara.
Body: Um, skinnier than now. In this shot I'm LITTLE, but still 180! Numbers mean nothing, and that's somewhat accessible from where I am today.

Napa Valley Casual

A few key decisions have been made regarding the wedding in the past week: Maid of Honor, Best Man, general location (Napa, duh), date, general-look-and-feel. Trevor and I have also been talking about the attire - my family is from Napa, but not super fancy pants; Trevor's family is even more casual - we want everyone to feel as comfortable and welcomed as possible. The "dress code" (if you will) is jeans/khaki's with nice tops for boys, and sun dresses for the girls. The same will go for Trevor and I, but it's hard to illustrate what "Napa Valley Dressy Casual" looks like. That's where Pinterest (and Photoshop) comes in!

Cute, right? I know Trev would have never considered this outfit if I just sent the photo of the old man. Have to help visualize, ya hear?

Officially in wedding mode

My darling boyfriend of almost-seven-years proposed last night, in the most classic, most Trevor way possible. If we're not going to buy a house, might as well get married, right?

Now, the hunt for the perfect casual setting begins. Oh yeah, diet too. And I have to stop biting my nails. And decide if I like my bangs or not. Wedding's in August!

Why didn't I think of this sooner?

I made my own coffee creamer this morning. Typically I use the store bought stuff, but in times of desperation I drink black coffee for the warmth and buzz. However, this just won't fly with my casual coffee consumer boyfriend, Trevor. So, I poured a cup of nonfat milk, half a teaspoon of vanilla extract, and two stevia packets into the creamer bottle to mix with the last remaining drops of manufactured creamer, hoping he would never notice the difference.

30 minutes later he came downstairs, politely refused coffee, and left me and the hot pot of coffee to our own devices. And you know what? I like my creamer better.

Pretty sure

I haven't been to the gym since I last posted. You know what I HAVE been doing?

- Getting under contract
- Passing inspections
- Building a client base
- Working my ass off
- Thinking about going full-time self employed
- Hustling
- Hanging out with my awesome kid.

Pretty sure I'm okay with that.
